With a little TLC an oil painting can last indefinitely.
This was an over-sized oil painting that was brought to A Frame of Art to see if there was anything that could be done to salvage it. The painting had been folded and stored in a suite case for many years. The clients said the piece had been brought over to America on a clipper ship by their ancestors. The paint was so dry that as we were unfolding the artwork it was falling away from the canvas.
After many, many hours of restoration, relining the artwork onto a new canvas, in-painting all areas missing paint and then the final coat of varnish, the art work looked as good as new.
